This is a lovely edition, though I will say, they could have gone a little further with the design. ![]() I fell in love with The Lies of Locke Lamora at about page ten, so when I found out there was a 10th anniversary edition, I had to have it. ![]() If book covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many beautiful editions! ![]() I can’t say that I’ve ever decided against a book with terrible cover art if I liked the sound of the plot, but I have purchased special editions of books or multiple editions of books based on their cover art. However, the pictures of the friends cooking together are my favorite part of the book. The illustrations in this book exude autumnal coziness and warmth. Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper “Pumpkin Soup” by Helen Cooper and a bowl of Roasted Pumpkin Soup – Three friends living in a pumpkin. They play music together, stitch quilts together, and make pumpkin soup together, “the best you ever tasted.” But when one of the friends decides to shake things up by trying out another’s job, can their friendship survive? They each have their allotted jobs and do them well. ![]() In the story, three friends, a cat, a duck, and a squirrel, live harmoniously together in a large pumpkin. The fact that the illustrations and words work so well together in this book is especially fitting given that Pumpkin Soup is all about teamwork. Cooper melds the text with the illustrations in a way that gives the book a vibrant sense of life and warmth. This is certainly true of the book Pumpkin Soup written and illustrated by Helen Cooper. The pictures and words often have a special harmony when they come from the same creative mind. I often find that there is something special about a children’s book written and illustrated by the same person. ![]() |
